APPLE TOPS U.S. PC VENDOR LIST FOR Q3 '94


 Apple Computer, Inc. (Nasdaq-NNM: AAPL) announced that industry reports say it has taken the lead as the top selling vendor of personal computers in the United States for the third quarter of 1994.  According to market research firm Dataquest, Apple shipped the largest number of personal computers in the U.S. for the period July through September 1994, capturing 13.1% marketshare.  
  "In the third calendar quarter, Apple experienced strong acceptance in our target markets in the U.S.," said Jim Buckley, president Apple USA.  "We were particularly pleased with the demand for our Macintosh 630, PowerBook 500 and Power Macintosh products.  And with the momentum of our Power Macintosh line, Apple is on track to ship one million Power Macs worldwide in the first year of production.  This is clear evidence that our customer and solutions focused initiatives are starting to reap rewards." 
    According to Dataquest, total U.S. shipments of personal computers hit 4,890,000 units for the third quarter, a 34 percent increase over the same period last year.  Dataquest reports Apple shipped 641,492 units.  During the same period, Apple reported its highest quarterly revenues in the company's history and quarterly unit shipments in excess of one million units for the second time in company history.
